The focus of Level 1 Unit 2 is, as you might have guessed, phonics! Understanding phonics is the key to mastering the English language, and this unit ensures that each learner becomes well-versed in the basics.

Phonics is a vital skill that helps students decode words, contributing to reading and writing skills. This unit combines various speaking, vocabulary, and listening activities to give learners an integrated introduction to English phonics.

 

Welcome to Level 1 Unit 2, Sound it Out, your starting point to explore English phonics! This unit features 12 lessons, each with exciting activities and speaking exercises. Keep reading to learn more!

Unit Overview

Lesson 1: Aa, Bb

This lesson kicks off with the basics, introducing A and B. Students will engage in speaking activities, sharing their names and ages. Dive into a lively identification game featuring items like an apple and a ball.

Lesson 2: Mm

Continuing the phonics adventure, we introduce the letter M. Students will practice speaking about themselves while expanding their vocabulary with words like milk and mouse. Watch out for the asteroids in a thrilling game, blasting words that start with M!

Lesson 3: Tt

In this lesson, students practice the T sound. Students will continue to practice introductions and talk about their ages. They’ll learn vocabulary such as table and teacher, and in the exciting game, Blast the Asteroid, they’ll target words starting with T.

Lesson 4: Pp

The P sound is the star of this lesson! Students will polish their introduction skills and learn new words like park and purple. They’ll also enjoy the challenge of blasting asteroids labeled with P words like pie and pen in our interactive game.

Lesson 5: Describe It

This lesson shifts focus to describing words. Students will explore a variety of adjectives, applying them to different objects to express size and shape, like big and small, in engaging practice activities.

Lesson 6: Jungle Adventure

Embark on a Jungle Trip where students will describe their day and learn about wild animals like elephants and monkeys. The lesson includes activities to practice describing these jungle inhabitants.

Lesson 7: Crazy Shapes

It’s all about geometry in Crazy Shapes! Students will share their daily adventures while learning shape names such as circle and square. They’ll put their knowledge to the test by describing various shapes.

Lesson 8: Oo

Meet the letter O in this introductory lesson. Students will share their daily experiences and learn about words like ox and octopus. The game Blast the Asteroid returns with an O twist, challenging students to spot and hit words like pot and rot.

Lesson 9: Q, R, S, T, U

Listen and Learn In Listen Closely, students will discuss their day and sharpen their listening skills by differentiating between similar-sounding words through targeted listening activities.

Lesson 10: A, B, M, T, O, P

This lesson reviews the letters A, B, M, T, O, and P. Students will talk about their day and enjoy a review session of Blast the Asteroid, revisiting words from previous lessons for reinforcement.

Lesson 11: Review

This lesson revisits shapes, animals, and adjectives. Students will discuss their daily activities and apply what they’ve learned in a comprehensive practice session.

Lesson 12: Assessment

In our final lesson, students will have another chance to review everything. It’s a day of speaking, listening, and interactive practice, cementing their understanding of the alphabet, shapes, and more.
